Rashguard - What is it?
A rashguard is a tight-fitting, stretchable garment that is specifically designed to be worn during martial arts training or competitions. It is made of lightweight and breathable fabric, typically a combination of polyester and spandex, that wicks away sweat and moisture from the body, keeping the wearer cool and dry.
A martial arts rashguard provides both comfort and protection during intense physical activity. It covers the torso and arms, providing a barrier between the skin and any rough surfaces, such as training mats or the opponent's uniform. This helps to prevent abrasions, bruises, and other skin injuries that can result from contact sports.
Rashguards were originally designed for water sports, such as surfing, to protect the skin from the abrasive effects of sand and salt water. However, they have since become popular in martial arts, particularly in disciplines such as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and MMA.
In these sports, rashguards are worn as a base layer under a gi or other uniform, or on their own during no-gi training or competition. They provide a number of benefits, including protection against mat burn, sweat absorption, and improved grip for grappling techniques.
